You ever have a dream where you are a human-sized barbie doll with no genitals? Well, you will, after you click these. And yes, Virginia, there’s also a man.

As they should. In Los Angeles, a neighborhood that feels normal is much harder to find than a neighborhood that feels angry, rich, empty, or hilarious. Mr. T’s Bowl is in Highland Park. And so is Footsie’s. That’s enough right there.
Any way, to show their love for such a place, Artichoke released an album of 8 songs, every one about the HP. This one’s called “Highland Park”. (Seriously.)
We’ve been Artichoke fans for a long time. You’ll find some great songs on their old eviltv page. Also check their myspace.

In this video, animator Jeff Chiba Stearns reflects on nine years of film making by exploring his obsession with yellow sticky notes. Though I’m not usually a fan of this kind of self reflexive subject matter, I found this video to be rather affecting in its simplicity. Or maybe I just can’t help liking something in which a rabbit has twin towers for ears.

Mathew Walker’s animated short, “John and Karen,” features a relationship between a penguin and a polar bear and was another highlight of this year’s animation show.

I’ve always been a sucker for artillery games—the kind where you have to set the angle and power on a projectile. This particular incarnation is one player, high score based, and imbued with some fun bouncy physics. The whole package is simple and addictive enough that it wasted a good deal of my time last night.

We used to feature Toben Seymour’s work a lot on the old site, so I decided to take a look at what he’s been up to and found this video for Moby. Let me just quote the description from YouTube: “An octopus disguises himself as a human and wanders around New York City looking for a club.”

The Parking Lot is Full is the first web comic I ever remember reading, back in 1996 when I was still connecting to the internet using AOL. Retired since 2002, the comic’s lasting legacy seems to be the Goofy Time meme, started by this comic. I remember PLIF as my first experience with a whole genre of excessively dark, overly conceptual web comics (the best of which is probably the Perry Bible Fellowship.) While PLIF is certainly hit or miss, and suffers from a now somewhat dated 90’s pop culture bashing aesthetic—I still find stuff to enjoy in it after all this time—it’s just so strange.

This is a series where funny people get drunk and tell their accounts of history, which are then reenacted by other funny people. This one features one of my favorite comics, Jen Kirkman.

This is pretty much a straight documentary on a fascinating man you may have heard of: Aubrey de Grey. As such, it’s not maybe as “artistic” as the content we usually post here on Evil TV. However, it is very well made (directed by Christopher Sykes) and if you are anything like me, you’ll find it incredibly interesting / enjoyable.

Apparently, before Dan Deacon made joke techno, he got drunk and babbled into a microphone. Some years later, Liam Lynch got his hands on the recording and partnered it with a coy, animated lizard. How and why this star-crossed collaboration came to be, I’ll never know, but thank god it did.

If you haven’t had the pleasure of witnessing Rademacher ’s dance-a-riffic distorto-welcoming indie rock live show, give this a listen. They caravaned down to Los Angeles from their home town of Fresno, CA for a show at the Spaceland and the venue made an album out of it. This song’s called "What Yr Used to Back Home".
You’ll find more tracks on their website and myspace , or you can buy the album here .
